I need to replace the hydraulic fluid on my 52'8N.Per the book I need to use 80/90 M-4864 what would be equal to this number in the local auto stores? I seen 303 and others posted on this site. Any help would help. And the rain has stopped in Texas for now.

If your seals are good and your hyds are strong..( and in colder weather / areas ) you should use the M2C134D type UTF fluid. You should be able to find lots of generics.. for instance.. JD 303 fluid is PROBABLY 134d compliant.. though also the same price.

I use walmart UTF or tractor supply UTF.. whatever is cheaper.

In hot environments.. or if you have a few leaks or a weak lift.. the thin fluid will cause you some extra work.. In those cases a 90wt gl-1-3 oil will work pretty good. Napa part numner for a 5g pail is 65-205 of 90w gl1 in some areas walmart has this too.

TSC carries what is probably a 90w gl-3 oil under the traveler brand and marked for ford trannies 1939-1952

You can also use a penzoil or castrol 80w90 lube ( or any brand so marked ) that is gl4/5 and STATES that it is yellow metal safe. Penzoil gl4/5 'gearplus' lubes are one example..

Fill the oil up till it dribbles out of the bottom bolt hole in one of the side covers.. then replace the bolt and you have as much oil as you need. This is generally around 4-5g of oil.. depending on how clean your sump is..

I bought some WaldoWorld SuperTech UTF a few days ago.

Nearest WaldoWorld, 40 miles away, had it for about $33.00. for a 5-gallon pail.

I was at a WaldoWorld Supercenter about 120 miles away over the weekend, and they had a HUGE pyramid of it for $23.00 a pail. What's the price where you are?

Incidently, the stuff up here is marked "packed by Warren Distribution".

Yep.. ours is warren oil too.. actually not too bad stuff from what i hear.

I am running by there today to check. i usually like to grab a few pails when it goes on sale. As those bigguns take 46-68 qts of utf at a time!

I'm changing the oil in an articulated DEERE that takes almost 40 GALLONS of the stuff. NOT good for the checkbook!
