My left rear axle is leaking fluid? Is there ny way of tightening rear wheel short of major tear down. Is there a lubricant zirch fitting or something to add lubricant to rear axle?

Greyfox, No, and no. Tightening your rear wheel and/or a grease zerk is not your answer. A couple of things could be going on with your axle seal leak. You could have too much fluid in the rear chambers that hold fluid. Take out the lower bolt on the right side plate of the middle chamber, the one with the dipstick in it. If fluid flows out, you have too much fluid in the chambers and fluid is overflowing the axle seal. If that is the problem, most likely both axles would be leaking fluid. See below for the better answer.

Second problem is the axle seal on the left side is shot. This is most likely your problem. You need an I&T manual, FO 8 (available from a lot of places and from this site under Market Place, Tractor Manuals, upper left of this page).

Do a search of this forum using the title "Rear Axle Seal" and you will get a wealth of information about your problem.

You should also go to the John Smith site on 8N's. Click the button "Maintenance/Repairs", then the button "Rear Axle Seals", to better understand what is being said in the FO 8 manual. Follow John Smith's directions to the T and you can't go wrong.

John Smith Site:>Link

Change>Link to word dot to a period, remove the () and insert that line into your browser window and click go. After reading the information print it out and take it with you to your shop. You may want to save his site in your favorites for future reference also. I've printed out all his information and stored them with my Ford 8N Parts Manual in the shop so I don't have to come to the computer each time I need information

Good luck, post back with any questions or results.
