Have been rebuilding my 8n the last few months. you guys have gave me some good advice. need some more but i think i know the answer but someone might have a trick out their. after getting my 8n put togather and all the new parts i have bought put oil in the block getting ready to start up. about 25 years ago the oil pan cracked and my dad had it welded didnt leak a drop a oil in 25 years. after geeting it back from the machine shop it open up and is leaking. i figure ican split the tractor again and get a new oil pan. or could a person use some JB WELD since it supose to be so could at sealing. after all my work i hate to take two step backwards since im so close to starting her up. any suggestions would be helpful but i think im going to have to bite the bullet and tear it apart and reweld or replace the oilpan thanks rj in wyo

OK, If your like me, and you are, I spent 20.00 bucks and bought a good used one, The oil pan is part of your frame. If you fix the oil leak, you still have a poor frame. Seeing we are both RJ, we both live in Cheyenne, we both have Ford tractors, What the heck is your name? I live out on Fox Farm Rd. BTW my oil pan was cracked and leaking from a old repair, bet your tractor once had a loader on it... This is bizarre to say the least.

Yes i'm unlisted. I have one of the VOIP phones so they leave me out of the book. I'm easy to find, there's a 1951 Ford business coupe, also a 1935 Diamond-T out front for sale. Also the only barrow ditch with a touch of color...

If the leak is simply through a pinhole or flaw in the old weld, and NOT a crack, it would just seal it up.

IF the pan and crack were clean, and not oil-soaked, JB would do the trick.

I would take the pan off, degrease it as much as possible, then heat the cracked area with a torch to burn off all oil. When it cools, wire brush the cracked area, then put JB weld on the INSIDE.

That would HOPEFULLY make a permanent oil-tight repair.
