At an auction waiting for hours for them to get to the good stuff..
I really wanted a 10,000 lb drive-on trailer - brand new, tandem axle, brakes on all 4 wheels - nice. The way the sale was ordered I had to watch a 46 2N (not original - some dang fool had converted it to 12V w/delco alternator and put in a Sherman hi-lo, and painted it grey and red )with good rubber go for $1625 cause I was saving myself for that trailer. The TE-30 went for $800 as I saved my money for that trailer, a 9N went for $900 - I was dying... Of course I didn't get the trailer - a couple people must have found out about the solid gold axles cause they sure bid on that sucker like they knew something was gold.
Grumble - whine - complain>>>>>> Oh well, I did get a good post hole digger cheap and what better way to spend an early February day than wandering around an auction lot. Now if I had known the trailer was going to someone else I coulda had the 2N and the Fergie.. There will be another sale in 4 weeks.

Paul..... .I've saved alot of money at auctions by being 2nd higest bidder..... .grin

I've always said, being a trailer manufacturer has got to be one of the best businesses going. Just pump 'em out the door, they never come back to compete as used trailers, because everyone just stores 'em in their backyard.

Good luck on your next auction..... Dell

I feel your pain! Seems like I must give out a psychic message, everything I want gets the midas touch too. No matter how nasty it may be.

The other auction thing that makes me frantic is being at auctions with more then one auctioneer going at it. Invariably, they will both bring up for auction at the same time things I want. Very hard running back and forth trying to bid on two items at the same time.

Same thing happened to me last Oct. Let a nice running 2N with rattle-can paint job (slopped over on the new tires) go for $1100 and a Case 580 with loader go for $2500. When they got to the trailers everyone got their money out and I had to go home.

I don't make it to many actions but made it to one at a cement truck manufacturing plant. Had lots of welders, presses, brakes, lathes, ect. and one Ford 3000 dsl. Kind of a pittiful tractor. The rear tires were fairly new, no dry rot, but bald, it painted green, and the injector pump was shot. I figured 4 to 5 k$ was a fair price. WENT FOR $9000. I geuss a sucker is born every day and 2 made it to this action.

The auction with the shills in the audience is illegal in most states. If the auctioneer was not licensed he could be arrested. To late now. The auctioneer is required to state a minimum bid by print before the auction.

It could be worse. I went to a farm equipment auction here and watched about 20 pieces of equipment being bid on. In each case there would be a lot of bidding, it would finally top out, then the auctioneer would turn to a man next to him who would shake his head. No Sale - and they would move to the next item.

It turned out that everything was being auctioned on consignment, and the owners had a "secret" minimum reserve on each item - obviously a very high one. I wasted two hours and didn't see a single thing sold. It wasn't much of an auction, just a gimmick to try and get more money than they would with an ad in the paper. I noticed a couple of shills working too, bidding on everything and trying to stir up excitement. What a deal!

i love the auction's but they sure can be frustrating. seems like someone always has a couple of more bucks than me. then there are the dopes who think just because that an item is for sale at auction that no matter what price they pay it must cheap! i still go though, must be an addict!
