Where do I put the oil?

I just acquired a 2N ('42 I think) and have no idea how to top off the oil in the rear gearbox. It's barely touching the bottom of the dipstick. Or is that where it's supposed to be? Oh, and, exactly what kind of lubrication goes in there? Sorry to bother you all with a newbie question.

Pull a bottom bolt on the round side cover behind your right heall.. add oil till it dribbles out there.. then repalce the bolt.

If you are topping off.. try to put in the same stuff that is in there.

You've got a 50-50 chance that it is either a generic UTF meeting CNH M2C134D standard.. or is 90w gl(1-3) gear lube.

Either will work..

The trans, rear end and hyds are a single sump that hold about 4.5-5 gallons of oil.

You add oil at the cap by the tranny shifter.

Also.. now is a good time to at least buy an owners manual for your tractor.. and perhaps a parts manual.. and a service manual... they are realitively cheap and will serve you well.

Goes in the big 2" plug on top of the transmission. Don'toverfill - will leak ont the brakes. Dipsticks are unreliable - remove lower bolt on side inspection cover and fill to that level - remark your dipstick for future reference.

The tranny, pump, and differential share a common sump. Either gear oil or universal hydraulic fluid. The archives have hashed the merits/demerits of both to death.
