Hey all, just finished putting on a new head gasket and got her put back together, now she won't turn over. I checked all of the connections including battery cables. I'll put the charger on her in the morning, but just wondering if there is something magical I need to do to get her to turn over? I just had someone replace the wiring harness and he put on a new switch. It was running before I worked on it. If the switch was left on, would that drain the battery? I'm thinking not, but not sure what else it could be. Any other suggestions?

I agree with old.. if the switch was on..and the poitns were closed.. I'd look at replacing points, and if a front mount coil. that too.. plus the battery will be flat..

Pull the spark plugs and let them dangle on their wires while you are charging the battery.. block clutch down.. now try to bar the engine over and make sure nothing is stuck accidentally from the head gasket change..

If it spins ok.. reinstall the plugs and roll her over with the starter and see if you can get spark..

If you left the switch on yep DEAD battery plus bad points and if a front mount coil its probably fried also.

It's late again... gasket, not casket.

Rick (IA),

Where-abouts in Iowa are you? I grew up on a farm in Shelby County, later lived in Harlan, and went to U of I (Go Hawkeyes!).

Living in VA now, but many relatives back in the God's country.

Jerry

Hi FF,
A little more info would be helpful.
1. Does the relay click? If so does the starter try to turn her over?
2. Do you have a voltmeter? Is there any voltage at the battery terminals and relay terminal?

Rgds,
Ike
