I am going to take it you are talking about the one that drives the differential and you have it split so you can git to the front of the pinion.
for some reason they threaded the end of the shaft 9/16 course thread. You will need a slide hammer type puller to git it out and some how adapt the 9/16 bolt hole threads to it, or beat it out it comes out the front and can B a sum of a butch to git out. Oh yeah take the 6 bolts out that hold the bearing retainer to the case. The pinion comes out the front. I am not sure you can take the lock'n nuts loose and drive it out the back (may b wrong) but the front pinion bearing is pressed on the shaft and will need to b pressed off once the whole assy is out.

It CAN'T go backwards, 'cause the third bearing, the straight roller rear bearing, is in the way.

If you are talking about the pinion part of the ring and pinion that drive the rear axle, you must first split the tractor between the rear end and the transmission.

Then, remove the six (IIRC) capscrews holding the pinion bearing carrier in place. Then, the pinion, complete with it's bearings and their carrier can be removed towards the front.
