Thank's Dunk and old for the info on the transmission fluid in my cylinders, but I'm not sure how much to put in there. Do I just fill it to the brim or only use a little bit? I "assume" that the fluid runs down the sides of the cylinder past the rings, or am I going to have to pump it out?

My self I always fill them as full as I can. That way the tranny fluid get to the valves, rings and all of the cylinder walls. I figure it this way if one has sat for more then a few weeks the cylinder walls will have rust on them and so will the open valves so I fill them as full as they can be. Matter of fact I just did that today to a Oliver 60 engine that had locked up on me and in an hour it freed up. Knew it would and knew why it locked up. A freeze plug in the head had popped out so I knew I had coolant in the oil. I have a 8N I will be hauling in soon and the first thing I will do with it is FILL the cylinders with tranny fluid since it has sat where it is since back in the 60s

When I did this a couple of weeks ago I guess I put in too much then.

I got a funnel and just poured in some. one cylinder was topped off I think.

It must have come out ok though, it only smoked for about 15 minutes once I was done and ready for starting it.

Only a couple of teaspoons at a time. You are just looking to coat the rings. Add a few more tablespoons each day, it will leak past the rings.

Dan

If ya got a new one that is stuck.. or hasn't run in a long while.. i'd fil them full.. if it is just sat a little while or has stuck rings, then as Dan said.. just a few oz each.

No need to pump the oil out.. just roll the engine over with the plugs out.. it will blow the oil out nicely...
