I just bought an old Dearborn/Wood Bro combine.
It has the flat head N engine with a
magnito ignition system . The serial number is not stamped in the usual place. there is a plate on the top of the bell housing boss. the only thing I can make out is 4-12 1197-C11-AR stamped on the plate Can anyone tell me what these numbers mean? Has anyone ever run one of these magnito system and put a generator and starter on it.Thanks for any info.

That's really neat. Are you planning on restoring it or putting it to work? Soundguy's right, we need some pictures! :-)

I don't think I'll restore it, I haven't made up my mind. As far as using it, here in the Ozarks there aren't many grain crops. I bought it at an auction and they called it a silage chopper.

Since this would be a "front-mount" block, there would be no provision for a generator mounting on the LH side, and wouldn't the mag dive be in the way of mounting a generator in the conventional place for a generator on a "front-mount", the RH side?

(Not sure about that, just "thinking out loud.)

Is the drive you have identical to the one I picked up this summer?

As far as adding a generator, I would have to make a mounting bracket. I think there may be room on the left side. I'm thinking out loud also. I think it's the same as your photos, I just got it home today ( 18 miles one way with the old 8N) thanks for the pictures I'll check it out.

I'd love to see pics of it.

There are pics in the archives of other engines with maggies.. some of industrial engines with the right angle adapters on them as well.

Sorry.. can't help you with the #'s.. hope someone else can.

I don't have a digital camera or the ability to post a picture. Maybe by the time I get it cleaned up and running somebody will teach me. I guess you've heard about the old dog.

Don't worry about it.. Old dogs may have a hard time learning the new tricks.. but they are usually better at the old tricks than the young dogs...
