O.T. f150 egr valve clean out ?

Sory about the o.t. Is anyone familer with how to clean out the egr on an 88 f150 4.9l ? Im getting codes that point to this being the problem ,what i dont know is do i have to remove the 3/4" ss tube on the back of the engine completly to do the job ?How about the intake ? Thanks in advance for your input . This forum is the best !!

Thanks a million guys !!!! I have been lurking around this forum for three or four years .I have a 52 sidemount that I have kept up pretty good, with help from all the super guys that post here , once again thanks! Roy

The EGR should be completely unbolted from the manifold (this includes removing any plumbing) and de-carbonized, cleaned, and operationally checked with vacuum/pressure to confirm it moves properly) then reassembled and reinstalled. It only takes an hour on most engines.

There's a POSSIBLE aternative to the EGR VALVE or the LINES being "at fault".

There is a gray plastic sensor (EGR position sensor) mounted to the rop of the EGR valve.

They commonly fail.

If it DOES fail, the 'puter can't tell if the valve is obeying the 'puter's commands, and a EGR valve trouble code will be "set".
