Well I rewired it today.

This is GB in MT wiring diagram...

I rewired mine just like that.

Here is how mine was. It charged but the amp gauged never worked. It was a easy starting 9N...

I rewired it just like GB's... I get 3.65 volts to the coil. Is this the right voltage?

Just a comment : If you are using the OEM Ballast R 3.65V would actually mean that you have LOW current because of additional resistance(other than Coil) in the Pigtail to ground path. The OEM ballast will limit current to 2.8 amps or 2.8 Volts as measured across the coil only (top terminal to the Pigtail) Regardless of what some pll think they have measured their coils a good OEM coil operates @ 1.0 ohm

If you are using an Auto Ignition resistor your current MAY be 3.65 Amps which would make it ~ 4.2 amps when running @ 7.5 volts. The WC (worst case) Key left-on would result in ~ 16 Watts.... That may be safe on a 6V system.

Volts are probably ok.. however.. make sure it is inthe 3-4 amp range. that is really more important than the actual voltage reading. especially since your voltage reading will vary based ont he temp of the balalst resistor.. etc.

Your old setup was not a correct net charge / discharge system, as you had load ont he same side as the battery.. where load should be in the genny side.. and battery by itself.. etc..

SouNder;
Just wanted to jump in here and thank ya for all your help on this system. Settles my mind to finally get this sorted out.
I hope this teaches the other guys with "N"s to always make diagrams for their changes. I'm glad to see the one I made, works for someone else, and know the reason why it works.

Thanks again to you and the other guys that helped with my sytem and ratteled brain.

Gary

Sean; Glad it worked for you!!!

The only difference in our two wiring systems is, you have an 8N three brush With adjustable voltage, and my 2N has an 8N three brush FIXED voltage Generator.!! works great with minimal maint.

Cheers
