OK, my feeble attempt at a tip....I wanted to check and fill the oil on the steering box on my 8N - could not get a spanner to fit in there, then could not find a socket that would fit the square fill plug on the side - then found that the end of a 3/8 extension in a socket set (the female end) fits over it perfectly - then used a C wrench to turn that!!!!

By the way, the steering box was pretty much empty so real glad I checked that.

Changed up to 20-50 oil, put in a bottle of some off the shelf 'guaranteed to work' gunk that is supposed to help compression and a bottle of more gunk that is supposed to fix seals.....maybe it is just me but it does indeed appear to be smoking less..... (most likely due to the heaver weight oil) - it still smokes but nothing like before....will report back later after running it a bit longer.

There are sockets to fit square nuts and pipe plugs.I bought them in the 50s when I worked for a John Deere dealer.

Well, you made me feel young.....I was born in '59!!! My father in law has a barn full of old tools and I bet there are plenty of things in there I could use.....problem is...just finding them!!!! Its like a Hammer house of horror scene in there....just found parts to Model A and Model T Ford car in there - old wood spoked wheels, lights and original wood boxed coils!!!!
