I looked in the FO-4 and the parts cd and I can not find a pic on how all that is put together. I was looking at a 8N Sunday with a sticky valve. Looks like something is dropping down that looks like a cup that a valve stem would fit into...You could lift up on that cup with ease. Is that part 31 in FO4 page 113 the guide? Should it be dropping down like that? Had to hit the valve spring with a BFH and a screw driver to get the valve spring to decompress. Crank it over a few times and the valve sticks again. Hit it and it decompresses again. Get zero compression in that cylinder.

The thing that sticks out to me if you are buying it is that what ever condition caused this problem needs to be fixed so it doesn't happen again after 10 hours of running time . Putting keepers back in with the head on can be a real task or a simple pop in . I remember a kit for ohv motors that threaded an air line fitting into the spark plug hole so you could use the air pressure to keep the valve closed while you removed the spring to change the seals , kinda the same principal.

Not buying it. Just lending a hand to get it running...

I just went thru that mess with the #4. Whe I finaly threw the tow in and took the motor down because of no oilpressure I found that the rust that was sticking the valve alsomessed up the valve seating and it would have been a wash anyway if I got it unstuck.

Just a thought. Hope you get it going without major effort.

Sean; Looking at pg. 113, see part # 30.???

on pg. 114 it's part #4. If that gets bent or broken, because the valve sticks, it can come off the valve guide, making that valve do what ever it wants to do. stuck up, or down. Can and has done this a lot.
The retainer could still be there, binding the spring and valve.

If anything fell off it is part #27 on page 113. Part # 30 same page is still there. That is easy to see and part #27 is not so easy to see. So I think we may have over looked that. Didnt help my flash light crapped out.

You're right. If the valve spring was stuck in the up position and the valve came down far enough, the tension on part #27 could relax and fall out.

I didnt look close enough at the time but after looking at this diagram. I think the valve was dropping down. Is that possible? The spring is stuck in the compressed position at the time. Keeper fell off? Can those be put back on without pulling the head?
