I have a century 130 amp (hah) 110 volt wire feed. It does a good job on 1/8 or thinner. I have been using a mix of 75% argon - 25% CO2. Would I be better off using straight CO2 for steel? I have heard penetration will be better with CO2..

Yes, a monkey can learn to WF weld. I just patched (after sand blasting) a rusted area around the valve stem hole on a front wheel. That project started out as, "fixing a slow leak".

If you are running 70s6 .023 wire and either 75/25 or 80/20 (Argon/C02) you will have the best results. Now if you had a 250 amp. machine and heavy stuff to weld I would go with .045 wire and 95/5 (Argon/Oxygen) and 30 volts and spray arc it.

We use plain CO2 because of the cost , 1-2 bottles a week , but the mixed does do a prettier job on all metals and less splatter .

Ken, Thats a bunch of welding. My gas is a few years old. Not sure if the mix might separate, that is what the Century manual indicated, but they might be making excuses. I live in Spokane WA, where it gets cold, cause of separation, according to manual.

The gases might separate???? Never heard of this but then I am just a monkey that likes my Hobart Mig welder! Is this a big problem with Argon/CO2 shielding gas?

Sounds more like a marketing ploy to sell on-site gas mixers.
