Early in the summer, I shared with the board my adventures of finding a 1940ish Ferguson two bottom plow that I used to turn over two acres of weeds and sand burrs surrounding our home. My goal was to plant bermuda grass. I was advised against planting grass seed in the heat of the summer but we've had so much rain here in Texas, with long term forecasts for it to continue through the fall, that I thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm posting pics of the three phases of the project: freshly plowed, freshly disced and leveled, and freshly mowed grass. We had a really good coverage of grass within three weeks of planting. I'm rather pleased with the results.

Just plowed.

Disced, leveled, and dragged

Freshly mowed about a month after planting. I could have made hay! The grass in spots was over a foot high.

Yeah, sandy is right Lance. Never have to worry about flooding around here. We're on the highest point around here, on a sand hill. The closest real soil around here is about five miles north of here or about 40 feet straight down. Well, there is a low spot down in the meadow that seems to be a rich dark soil. Holds water too. Might be a good place to dig a pond!

Fun want it, ya gonna turn it again, it will turn better the next time. Its the driest here on record, I recored 1/2" of rain in august, hot as heel to, set a record also. I have 2 fields I turned, one 60 days ago and one 30. I just rowed up the 30 day one for collards, the ground was so dry and like power I had a hard time driving a tractor threw it. We shore could use some of the rain. The 60 day field is like I left it nuttin but powder. My 50 N has took a lick'n and kept on tick'n. May be one day I will paint it shinny green/yeller and retire it if it becomes un usefull for any thing else.
