A couple of months ago I replaced my hydraulic fluid with 134b because I couldn't find 90W at the time. Since then, I seem to suddenly have minor leaks around seals and the 3 point lift has an almost instant leak down when I put in the clutch or disengage the PTO. Before changing the fluid it would hold up the bush hog for 15 to 20 minutes after I turned the tractor off. Now, I can't even drive the tractor 100 yards to the meadow without running the PTO or the shredder will be on the ground.
So, I've been advised to drain the 134 fluid and put in 90wt. However, I recently read of someone who uses 50Wt oil. Since it's so hot here in Texas during most of the year when I'm really using the tractor, would it be okay to use the heavier 50 wt rather than 90 wt? I'm thinking the heavier oil should take care of the lift's leakdown as well as the minor leaks around the seals that were never there before I put in the 134 fluid.

I use the 90w Mineral Oil too. Happy with it.

I too live in Texas - and I use 90w Mineral Oil on all my N's. Yes, it is a little slower in the dead of Winter when it drops down to 20 degrees, but it still works. Go to Tractor Supply - they stock 90w mineral oil labeled specifically for use in older Ford tractors. That 134d is basically 20w oil and finds all the cracks and leaks very easily.
