I am overhauling my 8n and got to the valves. Cant get some of the clips off to lift out the valve assemblies. 2 came off easily, 2 came off with a fight and the other 4 are kicking my arse. The vlave guides are stuck in the holes I guess and won't come down enough to release the clippies. Any suggestions...Ive soaked them with carb cleaner and wd 40 and they are STUCK!!! By the by..where can I get one of those valve removal tools shown in the shop manual?

Ricko,

I just did this, All came out but 2 mean ones. I found out you must compress the spring, fish out the 2 retaining bushings by pulling them down from the spring cup.

Once the spring is out, pop out the valve.

The clips come right out now by pulling down on them and pulling out.

The guides push out up or down easy.

If yu have the manifold off, see if you can stick a pry bar up the ports and nudge the guide down while compressing the spring with that tool you will have to make also. It almost takes three hands.

Ricko,
I just pulled mine out and a few were stuck pretty well. I sprayed the valveguide from both top and bottom with PB Blaster and let it soak for a few hours. Then took a circlip puller (aka hook tool) and hooked the hole in the retainer then levered it up and down till the guide broke free and started moving. Once the retainer is raised a little use a screwdriver and just keep working it till you can pull the retainer. Then use a screwdriver and hammer to tap it out.

You can make your own tool with a screwdriver by grinding the end into a hook. HTH
