While waiting for the primer to set up on the "N", I decided to check and replace the air valves on the rear tires, with new stainless steel valves. ( they have been in there for God knows how long!)

I took the lft. one out of the stem, and found it was already stainless, but replaced with new. Out and in, only 10 min.

When I took the rt. one out, only half of the stem came out. SURE, it was brass. So... now what I want to know is, Has anyone faced a 1/2 air valve stuck in their "N" tire tube nipple, and if so how did you get it out.

The local tire guy just wants to sell me a new tube, and pay him 38 bucks, just for the labor.!!! If I have to do that, so be it, But... there is nothing wrong with the tube I have, IF I can get this valve stem out.

Air condition systems use the same schrader valve and for years used a tap and pliers to extract the broken valve till one day while I was look'n at the rusty 4&1 it hit me zackly what it was for. Felt sorta Dufus, not I have 3 or 4 of the 4&1 tools, I don't think it will break the bank to have a few on hand.

Thanks for the replies.

Got it fixed for now. Took a dental pick tool, and run it down until it would fit inside the stem, then put a small hook on the end. I kept messing with it and pulling it out. The hook finally grab hold of the broken shank and I was able to get all but the very end of the parts out. Went down to the auto parts store and found some stainless valve extentions, with builtin stems. In stalled and walla!!, it takes and holds air. So..... I guess They are both good to go.

Now back to scraping Grease, so I can paint the 2N.
Little side trips, are not productive!!!!!

i've used a small cotter key and needle nose pliers to unscrew them if the top part is damaged.

The top half screwed out nicely, the bottom half of the valve stem is stuck in there. I got the spring bottom out, but the stem, itself is still in there.

If you have one of those valve core tools the little T looking thing. One end of it is made to pull out that problem part. Works about 50% of the time. If that doesn't work just take out the other part of the stem since rear tractir tubes have 2 piece stems and replace that part of the stem. Most good auto parts stores or tire stores will have them and you can also get them in stanless. Every rear tire I ever work on if the tube is bad I keep that part in my tire/tube parts draw and it has saved me big time over the years have extra ones laying around
