missing sound on 2n

I'm still working on my 2n I recently acquired.

It's got what sounds like an occasional miss when it idles.

I did the ATF treatment about 4 weeks ago, which did clear up the not wanting to start without starting fluid condition, but the miss sound is still there.

I put it under load with a bush hog but I couldn't hear the engine when it was under load. I recently put together my disc and tried pulling that yesterday.

When the engine is under heavy load it doesn't make any miss sound. Lift the disk and put the tractor to idle and the ocasional hiss/puff of the miss sound is there again.

Is this something I should investigate more or is this just normal for a non-rebuilt engine from 1947?

Thanks for the info guys.

I tested it again and it has no missing sounds at all under load, low throttle through high throttle.

If I lift the implement, it does still have the miss at idle and actually it does the miss sound if I'm driving around with the implement lifted at a slightly higher RPM (I don't know exactly what the RPM is, I'm at half throttle).

It works fine and runs so I'll just ignore it for now.

Add some atf fluid to your gas tank then work the snot out of her till you've run the tank...

might just help that miss if it's a bit of a sticky valve..

An occasional low rpm miss or skip at low rpm isn't bad.. my 660 and 8n do that.

Missing under load is different.

Run some atf in your next few fuel tanks... might be a sticky valve that gets going when the fuel is poured to it..

Unless it misses badly.. or starts missing during load.. I'd not worry about it..

It's not at all uncommon. Not something to worry about as long as it runs OK when you work it.

What I think is happening is something called "Lope". Just a slight load will keep the power pulses from out doing one another. More back pressure in the exhaust could give enough resistance to keep the engine from "getting ahead of itself" also. You might try restricting the exhaust, just for proof.

Common to high performance cars with advanced camshaft timing.

If idling at 500 or so, I believe it is normal. This is a carbureted engine and not injected. At idle there is not much combustible mixture entering engine. Once you accelerate and put under load, then all cylinders are doing what is best and normal. If missing under load, then there is trouble, usually a spark plug or wire.

My 8N and 9N do the same occassional miss at idle. Don't fret or try to fix what is not broken.

If your idle is real low RPM like around 400-500 I would not worry about it bacause that low it will not run smooth as silk. Now if its more like 1000RPM then you may have a plug thats fouled a little bit or even a plug wire thats bad or a few other things

Mine does the exact same thing. I'd love to know what is causing it.

My 8N does that too. Mine is a partial rebuild. I almost think it may be something with the governor...runs great so I"m not gonna fix what"s not really broken!
