I recently purchase a Ford ?N tractor. I was told it was a 1940 9N. The engine is a front distributor and the rusty serial number appears to be 303552. There appears to be a 9 ahead of the number. Tags are missing on both sides of the transmission case.
Other clues. Fenders have the raised Ford scrip.
Rear wheels have 6 lugs mounted with 11.2x28 tires.
There is a casting mark of 5-12-47 on the right rear axle with a part number of 2N4014A2.
Any ideas what it is?

What is it? - 1947 ford 2N in reply to Bruce Stewart, 09-07-2007 18:06:43
Serial number 9N303552 would be a very late 1947 2N. my s/n listing shows 1947 2N's starting at 9N258540. The casting date of May 12 1947 is consistant with that. Part number starting with a 2N also indicates a 2N.

Of course engines do get swapped out so the engine serial number is only one clue as to the year. If yours still has the ford badge on the front look for a tiny 2N stamped into it.
