I would like to go with the cornhead grease in the steering box, but since I'm a dufus, I don't know how to get the gear oil out first. This info doesn't seem to be in any threads on the subject. Lots of people have done this so can one of you help a dufus out? Thanks

What I am gonna do. Assume the box is empty after 57 years. If I find in the book how much oil the bos is sposed to hold, that is how much corn head grease i am gonna put in.

My understanding, just from my reading here is 2 tubes, but don't hold that to me, I do have this CRS.

I pump rite in on top of the old, if it leaks out the sectors shafts, remove the Pittman arms clean the seal area and drive a new seal in rite on top of the old seals. Tell ya the truth I never remove the old seals when rebuilding a box, the old seals are 100 times better than the new'ns you get now days so drive the new seal in on top of the old.

Till just lately I use chassis grease. I have the JD grease but not used it yet.

Oh, yeah, I meant to say howdy neighbor.

I live in Polk County, Ga.

I assume you are in Paulding Co.

I can't remember if the bolt holes go all the way into the oil cavity or not.

Take one of the lower bolts out and stick a wire in there and see.

Sorry, since it can't be done on a 9/2N, I didn't see the need in pointing out it's an 8N box.

There is no oil in there other than what is "misted" up there generally. (It shares the same atmosphere as the tranny.)
