OK Fellers, got mine runnin' but it appears I have a 41 9N or early 42. I would like to know why there is a hole in the transmission, right side, behind where the rear tie rod (rag link) attaches. Seems to have a grommet in the hole ('bout 1/2" dia). My F0 4 doesnt show any pics with a hole there???

I'm sorta lost.third party image

Shermans were always on the left side. Most likely is a Hupp, but also could be an F&T. All aux trannys were dealer installed and will not be in the FO-4 manual. Hupp had an overdrive/direct and an over/direct/underdrive. They look the same from the outside. Take at look at the site below which shows both. The lever that Red Rock sells is for the over/direct/underdrive which shifts much like the Sherman over/direct/underdrive. I would suspect with such an old tractor it likely just had the over/direct, but you never know.

Punch the link below, and scroll about half-way down to the HUPP section. Some versions of the Sherman MAY have had the hole in a similar area.
