Can't give away hay!! I have tried for several months to get our 25+ acres of hay/grass cut, Called people and had one that was going to do it but must have backed out cause he never called back.. Texas has had good rain this year and I realize there is s lot of hay, but I can't even give it away.. Discussing,, thinking now of setting it on fire to clean out the weeds and then wait till next year.

on average 50 pound square is going for $5 for grass and Alphalpha is $10 for simular sized bails. That is about twice what it was a year ago here in Indiana.

What I find amazing is a friend who lives about 40 miles north of me was paying $7 a bail for grass and worried that she wouldn't get enough to feed over the winter. I found a guy who said if we came and picked it up out of the field ourselves we could have it for $2 a bail for grass. The two of us bought all 300 bail and hauled it out. The old boy said he can't get kids to work for even $13 an hour... I wish my physical limitations would let me do it, I would be glad to take his money for a good days work.

James

Too bad we can't get some of our drier freinds to come and get some of this stuff. I seem to remember getting a little help once when we were hurtin for grass. Even here in Bellville, TX people are bailin their lawns this year.

Yeah had a neighbor in next pasture decide he was gonna make a killing in hay. He spent thoushands of dollars putting in irrigation into his field and has grown some great hay. Too bad the draught ended and we've had historic rain levels. Perhaps if we have another dry spell he'll recoupe his costs.

You know what they say; "the best laid plans...."

Yeah, same here in Brenham. Massive rains this year and stuff is growing like crazy, including the grass. All the hay guys are still busy. Sounds like you need a Ford N tractor and 5 foot shredder.

It"s a shame here in N C they are trying to get farmers to recycle corn stalks and soy bean stalks to have something to feed the live stock with. It"s been so dry all crops have dryed up.They say this would get livestock through winter hopefully but would not fatten them up.Farmers are having to sell off live stock.
We are in extreme drought here all towns and cities are on water restrictions.

They can be bought heavier. I just use the lighter ones cause they are easier for me to move around.

If you don't already have Bahiah grass growing on your place, you might want to make sure you don't buy any Bahaih hay. You might hate yourself for it in a few years, especially if your feeding lots are anywhere near your lawn.

Down here in the po' section.. we don't have them lush st. augustine lawns some of the fancier people/homes have.. our lawns are pensacola or argentine bahia already!!

My pasture has a mix on pen/arg bahia, very little fescue, some clover, and a decent amount of coastal bermuda, with some small amount of tifton .. etc..
