hello all; have a friend that was mowing a few days ago, when he shifted gears, said stick moved, but stayed in same gear. i went to trailer it to shop today; & in the meantime he had moved tractor to disconnect mower; got this thing bound up in two gears--bad. i pulled shift cover; fork; plates- took off starter & rolled engine backwards with bar while prying on 1st speed coupling; rocked back & forth; etc. going back with another trailer with winch to drag on--get it out of dark barn & can tell more but it is in first speed, not sure what other. anyone seen this before? thanks for any help---

Deja vu. Had this happen to me, couldn't free it up. Dumped the oil and found that I had broken teeth on the Second gear and that had everything in a bind. Had to split at the front and pull tranny.

thanks for replies. yep; thats my fears--broken teeth. didn't mess with it today-sure a lota work to trailer a tractor that won't roll, plus drag off & into shop. sure wish guy hadn't stirred that shifter around trying to get it out of gear-it was a simple fix but not now.

It's common once you get a worn shifter pattern, weak detents, or loose shifter forks//worn shifter tip..

Jack the rear wheels off the ground and get a couple guys.. one on each side.. have them jiggle the wheels while you try to pry it back to neutral... once you get it in neutral.. chack for toothless gears, and also for forks or detents or that shifter nub or it will happen again.
