I thinking about buying a Ford BNO aircraft tug (project or restored). I have not been able to find much information on these. I was wondering if anybody here who has a BNO can tell me a little bit about these tugs. I understand that these are converted Ford 2N Tractors. Is there anything that's difficult to find? Anybody got one for sale?
Thanks!

Merlin...they were not really "converted", but factory-built before the 2N came out. There were two models...BNO-25(2500# pull) & BNO-40(4000# pull), both outfitted w/ heavy steel plate bumpers & skirts all the way around. There was no pto, but a pintle hook on the rear bumper. The brakes were hydraulic disk type instead of the ag tractor's drum & shoes. Both the -25 & -40 had 6x19 front tires, but the -25 had single wheel 6.5x20 truck tires where the -40 had dual wheel 6x20 truck tires.

It'll be interesting to see if you can find one for sale.

The N-newsletter has some brochures in their archives on the BNO's. They will send you copies for the price of postage.

Jeff

Go to this site and search for "tug" and you will pull up 7 photos of old tugs. Some in the weeds, in use (under vintage photos at same site, search airport), and nice restorations.

Maybe some of those will give you some leads.
