Well I've looked in the manuals that I have and can't seem to decide. The radius rods on my 52 8N seem to have a lot of play at the ball end where it fits at the trans. My question is , are there bushing that wear out in there? Or do the socket and cap wear, indicating that I need to replace these pieces. Thanks for all of the help in the past guys, and for this time in advance.

I bush the inner side up with a piece of old oil bottle. If worn enough use 2 thickness. Will last for many years. Put penny in bank and compound interest.

Don't the radius rods have some shims you can take out/put in to take up the wear?

Forgot to mention.. take yer penny/slug/washer and lay it on a piece of wood and smack it right hard with the round end of a ballpeen hammer so that it is slightly concave.. then it fits nicely!.. don't have to be bowed all the way.. just deflected a bit..

Yep.. a penny.. or slug from a electrical box if ya can't afford the penny. A small falt washer the size of a nickle/penny will work too. I've even found a round patch of tire inner tube in them..

I've heard of guys using a penny in the cap to tighten them up. Supposed to work well.

Ray,

Just as Lee says, put a penny in there. But if your radius rod ends are really worn, and due to inflation, use a quarter.

Best regards,
