The intake valves for cyl 3 & 4 are sticking. The springs are not broken. The block is a CT rebuild and does not use oil and does not have a lot of hours. A gentle bump or a few seconds and they will close. It was running good three weeks ago. What are my options?

Bought a rebuild kit from ct a few years back worked ok. Then about a year later one valve started sticking after about ten munites after start up. Had guide reamed out and it still stuck, replaced valve and guide with new ones no more problem.

How far did the CT rebuild go? Valves, guides, springs, retainers? Just because the springs aren't broken doesn't mean they aren't weak. Are the keepers intact on the stems? How about the guides, seals and stems? Any bent stems?

I don't know how much new stuff they put in their rebuilds, just as little as possible I guess. It was not using oil and not fouling the plugs. The keepers are intact and I don't know of anything to bend the stems. I'm thinking the springs are weak and I'll have to do a valve job, but I was hoping someone would have a better idea. This must not be a common problem because I could not find anything in archives.

How do you know exactly that the valves are sticking? What are the symptoms? Maybe the lifters are sticking in the up position and when the tractor bumps, they fall down on the cam?

My best advice would be to remove the side cover and manifold and spark plugs and crank the thing over and watch what happens. Maybe some Marvel Mystery Oil applied to the stems?

It wouldn't crank. Just spinning like no compression, which is what it was. I have the head and valve covers off and I'm looking at the valves. Tried liquid wrench, it did not free them up. Used Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas for years and just recently stopped. Will try some on the stems. I'm surprised it ran so good three weeks before. Appreciate your help.

Makes me kinda suspicious of your valve guides too. As in did someone try to save a buck by knurling the guides, and get over enthusiastic doing it by hand? Or forget to clean out all grinding compound? Not that I've ever done that one!
