I just bought this 8N an it's overheating within a couple of hours or less. Where is the thermostat located? I would like to take it off. Any suggestions as to why it is overheating? I have not done anything to it but remove a clear view filter located next to the exhaust manifold. Your feedback is appreciated.

Like JM & old said..... ...the most common reason for an N to over heat is over filling the radiator.

For more info, check out tip # 23, below as well as tips 25 & 35.

If the radiator is not overfilled, check for low coolant, a loose fan belt, debris in the radiator fins or a stuck thermostat. A bad water pump will usually squeak or leak.

In upper radiator hose, but most of these old tractors have "lost" them long ago, so don't be surprised if you don't feel one in the hose. Stopped up radiator either inside or out, rust/corrosion in block, running too high RPM, timing retarded, or most common of all, overfilling radiator & interpreting overflow as over heating. Fill only enough to cover the tubes/core....leaving lots of air space above.

When I had the an Allis Chalmers, I had to run at high RPM to turn the shredder a little faster. It seems that this is not the case with a 8N. So it does not matter how fast the engine is going, the shredder will turn at a certain speed. Is this correct? Because I had the gas lever to the end which was at a high RPM and could have cause the overheating. The little bump on the gas lever plate are a little worn out and it won't stay at th end. It normally will come back to the 2nd or 3rd bump before the last one. You were correct it does have a thermostat. I felt the hose and there is nothing in there. It was water coming out the overflow but it was almost as steamy. So, I stopped for about 15 to 30 mins and got back on it for another 15-20 minutes and stopped it again. But, if I am running at a high RPM, this may be causing the problem. I will also check on how to check the timing. Thanks for you alls feedback. Armando, San Antonio.

Over heating or is the radaitor to full?? If its to full it will blow out the excess coolant till its where it should be. Thermo is in the upper rad. hose
