I have a 48 or 49 8N. Engine runs , but surges steadily to high and then back to low rpm as if it has a temporary fuel blockage. Thanks! Ronzo

That's exactly where i would start looking.. If it is indeed 'seeing' a fuel shortage and then dieing out, the govenor is then revving it up and letting it settle back down, which, then starts the cycle all over again.

Look for fuel flow to and thru the carb (drain).

It needs to have a good stream.. not a drip or trickle..

I'd also screw in the mainjet ( count turns ) and then screw it back out all the way and then give it a shot of carb cleaner then reset it back to how many turns it had.

A shot of carb cleaner into the fuel inlet, past the elbow with the drain out wouldn't be too bad either.

make sure your carb to manifold gasket is sealing well too.
