I pulled the two bolts that hold the heat shield/wire loom to my block last night and much to my suprise coolant came gushing out of the holes. Is this supposed to happen? I drained the radiator a bit and the gushers stopped.

On a side note, one of the bolts was too short and was never threaded into the block.....could this have an affect on operations????

If the one bolt is to short yes it can cause a problem with the head gasket blowing because of improper torque on the head. All head blots need to be torqued down to the correct FT/LBS or it can cause problems

It's quite possible. Where were the bolts at? In the head or on the side of the block? I think that most of the head bolts either to thru the water jacket and intake/exhaust ports. All of the intake/exhaust manifold bolts are in the water jacket.
