I have noticed that when starting my 8N it seems to start off on one or two cylinders, then another picks up and I am not actually sure if the 4th is always firing....when driving under load it seems that one cylinder is firing intermittantly.

So, tried to do the 'pull each plug off one at a time deal'....thats where the ZAP! comes in....4th spark plug cover ok...3rd gave me a good few jolts so gave up...had a good look at the plug leads and two of them have brushed against the fan belt and one is gouged (but not to the wire) and the other is lightly gouged. I bought the plugs on line from a tractor supply company - I am sure they have a copper core but I am guessing that the gouges in the insulation is causing a loss of spark?

I am prepared to head down to NAPA for some new plug leads - is there a kit for the 8N or do I just buy lengths of leads with new connectors?

Must say the kit I got on line seemed a bit cheapo - you just squeezed the connectors on to the plug leads - or is that they way they come?

Instead of pulling the terminals off of the plugs to check for missfire, securely GROUND one end of a test lead. Then, attach a screwdriver or "pick" to the other end, and SAFELY short out the plugs one at a time, and notice if the engine speed changes.

Nuttin wrong with the brass ends on the cheap set, they are intentionally made to fit tight, What do you spec holds them in the cap. Solider them to the center copper wire, coat with dielectric grease.

I used the "Just Like Original" spark plug wires. They do not have a boot on the end near the plug. I stuck my hand in to pop the wire and test for spark and when my finger got within a few inches the spark started jumping the gap to my finger. That sure smarts!

Yeah, the terminals don't crimp worth a damn. The hot ticket is to get the copper core stripped so that it sticks through the terminal a bit and folds over. Crimp it and then SOLDER it. Takes a little bit, but you'll never have to worry about a loose, corroded connection or pulling a terminal clean off when you remove a wire.

Most all I've ever had came with the squeeze ons, just make sure your strip out a lead of copper to make real good contact.
