8n Steering trouble

I was trying to get the slop out of my '48 (built in '47) 8N. I took the steering arms off, removed the steering column, pulled a couple of shims, and got her back together. Now I notice that I can turn a LOT sharper to the right than I can to the left. Clearly I got the gears installed incorrectly, which shows that Sally Field was right all along! (Forest Gump movie "stupid is as stupid does"). Anyway, now that I have proven just how dumb I am, I need help with fixing it. Is there some procedure to get the gears meshed correctly?
Thanks
Tex

Yes there is, and the I&T fo4 explains it in detail. if you can count gear teeth, and locate the master spline you will have no problem.

Also.. the shims only effet bearing preload.. sector slop is taken out by adjusting the side covers.

You went thru alot of trouble for nothing.. Invest in that 30$ manual and save yourself some trouble on your next repair by doing it right the first time.

good luck.. it's a simple task to re-time the ballnut to the double sector, and the single sector gear..
