Ad says 575 but I'll leave it to others with more experience to say if that's a deal or not. I guess if you had an engine kicking around...

Looks like an inspiration to leave the throttle wide open . . . just 'cause it goes that far.

I feel like the throttle should be used at the "just enough" level.

This IS a waste of resource to have a rod through the block & pan...

Some guys can wreck a crow bar, though.

I bought a 8-n just like that, hole and all for $500. Had the block welded. My mech. cut a v shaped piece from a junk block. It didn't get into the water jacket when blown so the block was saved. I put another $1000. in having it overhauled along with a used pan and now have a tractor that runs great.

I live about 50 miles from this 8N and have seen a few tractors for sale out here on Long Island. Most of the ones I have seen were in a disastrous condition as compared to the way the seller described them. It seems that there are very few tractors still in use or storage on LI. Therefore the higher prices for lower quality units. However for this particular one the price is not overkill. But a lot more information would need to be known to justify the price. For example are tires useful, rims any good, is tranny free to shift, is PTO free to turn, steering somewhat tight, etc, etc. If I needed many parts for my 2N and the parts were usable then it would probabably be a good deal and sell the rest of the parts. But if you wanted to restore this one and you don't have a motor for it it would probably turn into a money pit.

Haven't been out LI in over 35 years (used to go to CanAm races at Bridgehampton). Recollect lots of farming activity back then. Has it all given way to development now?

In the 60's and early 70's we used to go to Westhampton drag strip. A lot of that kind of activity back then. I don't know much about today. I have not traveled much out that far in a long time. Nowdays I do a lot driving around as far out as 30-40 miles from NYC(QUEENS that is) for pleasure and scavenging of thrown out garbage(read rich man's garbage=poor man's gold). Not much in the way of farming in this area. Has been developed a long time ago. Further East there still are a few farms and also grape country for wine. And the Far East is the millionaire's playground(from what I hear anyway).
