Just got new pin and bushing from our sites host. It is a way sloppy fit, like 20-30 thou. Has anyone done one lately and how was the fit?

1.745 pin diameter
1.770 inside bushing

Geeze, 35 thou

Russ....the prints call for the bore in the axle support to be 1.910-1.912.The id of the bushing should be 1.756-1.764.The Tisco bushing measures 1.917od and 1.772 id.The pin should measure 1.748-1.747.The Tisco pin measures about 1.748-1.750. don b

That would be in the axle center section - no?

So the Tisco bushings are a tad "loose" - about .008 over the spec'd max before pressing.

Dan....yeah I meant to say center axle, not the axle support. The bushing OD and ID is a little oversized. You might have a little trouble installing the bushing in the center axle.Don't think the ID oversize will be a problem tho. don b

I'd be more concerned if the bushing fit sloppily in the axle, vs some play in the pin to the bushing as the others stated.

if you lube it.. get some graphite lube.. etc.

I just replaced the pin and bushing in my '51 8N. had to take the front end off to get teh old pin out...man what a mess 50+ years of rust and corrosion caused! When I put it back together, it had approx .025-.030 of play in it. I did not grease it like the manual said....what a mistake. This think squeals and sqwaks like crazy now, driving me up the wall. I'm trying to get some spray lube in there to shut it up. I know they say not to grease it...but to each is his own. If I had it to do over, I probably would.

I just shipped one of the early 9N versions I custom make to a customer and he reported the same concern.

The Ford spec on the pin itself is .002/.003 under the nominal 1.750 bore in the axle support (1.747/1.748). I try to keep the ones I make in that range - your's is a tad undersize but unless it's sloppy in your housing I'd not be overly concerned about it. I have no idea what the spec on the bushing is supposed to be. In that application I'd think .020 is plenty tight enough but if you must have it closer you can probably find a stock 1.750 sleeve bearing and ream it to finish size.

Russb,
I just miked the new ones I am going to install and got 1.748 for pin and 1.770 for bushing ID. Note that the bushing is not installed yet. Clearance of .022 and I am told to NOT lube it as that would only attract dirt.

Another thought, I can mike my old pin when I get it out. There appears to be an area that doesn't wear.
