On my 47 8N the oil pressure gauge starts out at 40lbs and goes down to 20 or below 20 once the engine has warmed. Should I replace the oil pressure gauge or is that normal. I am using 30 weight car oil in the engine. Also, the generator is only charging at 10 volts...is that OK?

Alex

Oil pressure sounds good enough. Most of them drop when warmed up. Do you have a 6 or 12 volt system?Your tractor shoud have a AMP guage.. If it is reading 10 amps all the time seems a bit high. Battery boiling over?

Amp Gauge.

I got to thinking of your comment about hte amp gauge...it vasilates between 0 and 10. Is that normal? I guess I am new to these tractors as far as being an owner. I learned to drive on my uncles Jubilee in 71. Thanks for your advice.

It still has a 6 volt system. The generator was recently rebuilt and a new voltage meeter was added. I gues my concern over the oil pressure is that it gets close to the bottom of the reading area e.g. half way between the bottom and 20. The book says it should be at 20 pounds. I just don't want to ruin the motor.

As long as you have 20lb of oil pressure hot, or 10lb for that matter, I wouldn't sweat it.

Change the gauge and compare if you think there is a reason, $10 cheap?!?!

(Dayum where is Dell???)

(I hope his sister is alright)
