NAA Starter/Electrical Problem

My NAA won't crank.

The battery is OK and I have replaced the solenoid.

When depressing the starter switch, the solenoid clicks once and then whines while the switch continues to be depressed.

My guess is that it is a starter problem but am hoping for a less expensive problem.

Any ideas?

Russ;

If what SouNder, and Ross told ya, was not the problem, try this: Make sure to have clean grounding area between the starter and bell housing, Re-install the starter, and try that. If it still dos'nt work, (here comes the stupid sounding idea), Whack the starter side with a board, try it again. Still no work???? Sounds to me like stuck or worn brushes in the starter, or dirty armiture.!!???

It's been done before on here. Sometimes ya get LUCKY!!!

Ditto what Ross said. if you hit the starter button and then here a whine sound. I'd sayt he starter is spinning but the drive is not connected to the shaft, or the flywheel. Only a few bolts to pull to verify that vs guessing.

If it whines it sounds like thestarter may be turning but the starter drive is not there. Sometimes they do come off.

Thanks to both Ross and Soundguy for your replies.

But my original post may have been a bit imprecise. The solenoid clicks once and then the solenoid (not the starter) whines or hums if the starter switch is continued to be depressed.

I removed the starter this morning and attempted to spin it via the starter switch with the same result.

This ameteur's guess is that the starter motor or one of its components is fried.

Advice still needed.

Thaks.

Russ

If it truely is the soliniod that is whineing then you most likely have poor connections some place. I would start by cleaning up all battery/cable connections and then if it still does that try a different battery. If that still doesn't work pull the start off and take it to an auto parts store and have it checked out. Most will do it for free.
