I got a Bush Hog rotary cutter last year. Holding the blade on one end it can be moved up and down about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. Is this normal play or do I have a problem. It has been cutting OK. Also it has the bowl guard below the blade (stump jumper?) Is it difficult to remove in order to access the blade? Thanks in advance.

Ditto what GAH said. The blades were designed to move a bit. As long as the bolts aren't loose.. that much paly aint bad.

Also.. most of us leave the blades ont he stump jumper when we sharpen them... no need to remove them unless you are repalcing them.. and if so.. repalce the botls and nuts too.. cheap insurance..

The amount of play at the end of the blade is not excessive, I don't think. Centrifugal force will bring the blades up to a nominal height in operation.

The stump jumper can be unbolted for bladework.
