I believed my tractor to be a 41" 9n but now I"m not sure. These are the numbers I found :
8n 79745 on the engine block
9n 6675 on the underside
E58
8n also on the engine block left side
49297-009 on the top of the head
the numbe that is embossed on the lower side of block is not readable and finally ingraved on the ford emblem on the front is 2n
Is this a medley of parts from 3 diff. machines?? can anyone help??
Thanks,
Brian

Sounds like you have a 2N with an 8N engine.

Is it a three speed? Right and left brakes on opposite sides? Six bolt large rear hubs? (with rivets in the center)

2N's have s/n's that start with 9N .

If that E 5 8 was on your engine then it could be a casting date code for May 5 1948. Which would also mean an engine from an 8N.

Hi Brian,

Sounds like you've got an 8N if it says 8N on the flat serial number plate on the side of the engine. But nearly all of the parts for the N series were interchangeable. For example, I have an 8N except for the engine, which is a 2N.

Check this site out. It should help you out.
