Can they be removed by taking out the two bolts directly under them that seem to go "through" the rear axle?

Gary --

I picked up on the Oven Cleaner trick when you mentioned it in one of your previous posts and have been using that idea myself.

Takes the paint off easily as well in areas where there was only one thin coat.

Hey Gary,
I won on the color for the tins!!! third party image

I've got to get the fenders off so I can send them, along with the hood and legs over a buddy of my father in law. He's going to blast them for me and then I'll do the paint myself. The guy is pretty good. He just finished up my father in law's 68 Mustang. He did a full paint job, took care of some very minor rust, replaced all the weather stripping throughout... did some other things too. Basically a little TLC for the pony car to let it run another 39 yrs. I think we're going to put in some new rear leaf springs though.

Anyway, back to the N. Yup, I've been steady cleaning and prepping. I was amazed at some of the crud I found that was painted over the last time it was done. Granpa got a raw deal when he had it painted last. I found places where compacted/hard grease & dirt had been painted over rather than cleaned and preppped. It's been interesting and fun thus far.

I've got to get my hands on a couple of front tires and then I'll get the steering assembly back together and aligned. I was outta pocket last week house/dog sitting for my wife's aunt, so I didn't get squat accomplished during the last week and a half.

I appreciate the info you provided to me on your paints. I read the boards every day... two or three times a day. I really appreciate all of you guys and the information I've gleened thus far.

HP; It's always neat to win, at least part of the time!!!third party image

Yes, I know what you are saying, about the painted over grease and pealing paint. I sprayed about 4 coats of high strength OVENCLEANER all over those areas, and let it set for 24hrs, then pressure washed it real good, before prepping. At least 30days of that before I started painting.third party image

Sounds like you are well under way.

Have fun!!!

That"s how its done . Get someone to steady the fender until the bolts are out so you don"t hurt . God bless, Ken
