My new to me 49 8N starts with 60 psi oil pressure. Hot idle is 25. I read on this forum that some people up's them by changing the bypass spring? or adjusting it? The tractor smokes a little after warming up. (A little blue smoke when going from idle to wide open) otherwise ok. I'm wating on a ORC for the 5' rotary cutter and oil filter before running too much. I plan on using 30wt HD oil. Another question is about the red and gray paint for these tractors. I've seen anything from orange looking red to nearly a light brown gray on some posted pictures. Is red red? I've got about two quarts of IH red. It ages to blood red. Also I like the light gray best. Be easy on me guys. I'm open to any suggestions. David.

As the others said.. your oil pressure is good. besides.. if you are reading 60.. I'd change the gauge anyway.. as it may be inacurate.. or someone may have already stretched the spring in the oil relief valve anyway. much over 45 is not too common on an N.. even cold...

30w is decent oil.. see what it gets ya.

Dave Where in GA are you ? Are you going to be at either Berlin on Saturday or the AG Expo in two weeks? I'm not taking a tractor to Berlin, I am thinking I will try and cultivate one more time before the Expo then pull the cultivators off give it a bath and take the SC to the Expo I think the 2N will have to stay home this year.

25 psi hot idle is great oil pressure, even on a new engine. RP

I read somewhere you could put a washer under a spring somewhere

to boost the oil pressure. Only problem is, you aren't really boosting

the oil pressure. You are just fooling the guage into thinking you did.

It was mentioned as something to look for when buying an N tractor.

The original Ford Red on these was a sort of orange tinge to it. Most perfer them bright (fire engine) red now. I'd paint it however you think it looks best.
