Well I have the oil pump problem fixed but I now have a broken exhaust valve. I had hoped that I would not need to pull the head off this one but I guess I didn't get that lucky. Oh well I guess I'm still not doing to bad since I got it real cheap any how. But how in the world did it brake the valve like it did?? It broke the end on the valve off and in doing so the keeper broke and a few other bits and pieces also. I thought I had got it freed up but I guess it was stuck tighter then I believed it was.

Old,

Did you end up rebuilding that pump, or did you find another solution to the oil pressure problem?

Colin

Nope didn't rebuild it I did how ever pull the pick up tube off and found the plate on the end of it was scored some. I then took some fine sand paper and sanded the scoring out of it and I now have no problems with the oil pump prime any more. Guess there was just enough of a gap that I was loosing prime beause of the scoring

that's really interesting! I'm glad you figured it out without shelling out the bucks on the rebuild kit.

When I did the sanding I made sure the sand paper was on a flat piece of metal and just worked it till the scoring that was there was sanded out. Took me about 30 minute to do it but it worked so I'm happy with it.

Hi Old - I always enjoy your posts. I was taught in the machine shop that to surface a plate like that use a piece of plate glass on a true surface. If you had a machined flat metal surface I'm sure it worked just as well. We used 400 or 600 wet or dry with water or oil to true them up.

Would you believe I used the top of my big battery changer to lay the sand paper on. It seems to be good and flat plus it was just the right heiht for me to be able to work it well
