Folks, went out and started the 8n(first time in about 2 weeks). Got her going and hooked up the plow. Well, as I dropped the plow and give her 2/3 throttle the throttle popped back down to idle. I let it idle, pulled the govenor rod to accelerate the engine and it pulled back. I think this is correct???

I had to hold the throttle at 2/3 power while plowing so if anyone has a good idea what it could be I would certainly appreciate it.
Good oil level, oil is clear also. No leaks.
Any ideas?

Are you saying that you set it to 2/3 throttle, and as soon as the gov started to kick in, that the throttle handle slipped back down to idle?

Sounds like toy don't have a gov compensating spring..or your throttle quad plate is worn bare.. or your ball int he throttle handle is flat.. or any combination of the 3.

if it works fine while holding the dash throttle in place.. then it is a simple issue.

Sound, yes, i set it to 2/3 throttle and take off or try to and it idles right down instantly. The throttle plate is worn but it didnt wear just sitting for 3 weeks if you know what I mean. I looked at the gov linkage and it looks alright.

Do you think it could be the gov. itself?

Could the ball be simply stuck inside from sitting for a couple of weeks?

well i took sounds advice. checked out the linkage that attaches the throttle rod to the throttle plate shaft. the linkage is tightened with a 7/16 socket on the nut. what it looks like is the linkage was flush with the bottom of the shaft. I bumped it up 1/4" and retightened the nut. did a little cultivating and it seems much better. however, it is still there just a little bit but it don"t dog down to idle anymore at all.

thanks sound oh, and i also tightened up that darn generator on the bracket.

Most of the time if the gov fights you back, and your throttle rod is slipping down to idle on the quad, it is nothing more than a pressure/spring adjustment.. or at most.. quad and ball fixing..

It's when yuor throttle rod stays put, and the gov makes the engine buck that you might have to do some gov/carb tweaking.. etc..
