Starting a new thread my thread got hijacked yesterday. Im wonder if the relief valve should have what looks like a spot of JB weld on it.

Here are the pics of a clean pump. Im going to spend some time scrubbing the belly out. Be my last cleaning of the belly. The next guy can do it 66 years from now third party imageI have heard the aluminum pumps are a rare find? Cant find a date code just 9N605 with a circled 3 under it.

Pretty to clean out the rear grease pit as I call it. It was full to the top with sludge. Notice the drain hole in the front wall. Big hole in the back is how the diffy gets its oil. Should hold the required 5 gallons of GL1 now. Have 10 gallons of Diesel and GL1 to take to Napa and dispose off.

Tom N MS said: (quoted from post at 20:32:47 10/05/07) You said that yours had one like that until you rebuilt the pump. I have installed three new ones in different tractors lately and all the replacements are like that. What does your replacement look like and is the replacement you used better? Available where? I have never rebuilt the pump. I have the 9N split in 3 right now(tranny overhual). Dropped the pump to clean the belly. Way to much sludge for my eyes to look at. Sounds like you need to clean the belly.Sp;it between the tranny and center housing is a walk in the park. Makes it easy to get every nook and cranny and give the belly a good cleaning.

I was gonna tell ya what that wus but got off track, if you ever feel the need to take a look in the relief valve run the soldier up again a wire wheel and it will burn it off.

Pressure gauge on the Git this "TEST PORT"
That's the only way I know that would B factory recommended., How I would go about it i soon as not tell other than to say educated guess.

One of these days when I take the time i spec it could B tested out of the pump. Rite now I take'em apart leave'em on the table and walk away and install a new'n.

If you checked how many turns are the thread count when you took it apart i would start their, install and if all seamed OK run it.

That's a spot of solder put on there when they initially made the valve and set it for 1650 psi. They do that so you can't change the adjustment on the relief valve spring. Nearly all pumps are aluminum.

Hi Sean,

I see the spot on the valve you are talking about now. It is made that way, they set the pressure release spec by turning that outside piece and then solder it in place. My 42 had one like that until I rebuilt the pump.

You did a great job on cleaning it up. I had forgotten you said it held implements up real well.

Good luck, Joe

Tome
My new one looks more like a hex head.

I was told it will work, I hope so. I have not had time to finish up my tractor. Hope to start on it soon.

Joe

Now that you described it, I recall seeing them like that. Undoubtably it will work.
