I am trying to wire up my work lights on the back of my 8N now that the days are getting shorter. My problem is that I can’t figure out a neat way to run the wires that I am happy with. Everything I come up with looks like an eyesore or worse, looks like it will get caught.

Does anyone have any photos or descriptions of a neat way to run the wires?

You can buy the "original" Ford asphalt fabric loom (1/4" dia) to put all your N-Series wiring as it came from the factory.

Here is a ebay site that sells it. I recently bought 300' of 1/4" for $16.00

Lookclosely at your N.. notice a couple of the flanges have thru holes inthem for lamp wireing... also a few bolts may have metal tabs onthem for holding wires.. etc.

You can pull a tranny bolt out and add a wire hold tab and use those thru holes.

I like using double insulated wire.. the kind with the clear sheath, AND the vinyl insulator.. like brake harness wireing.

I've also seen people use split loom and spagettie looming, and even rubber fuel line and zip ties.. and then snake your wire thru that.

Metal flexible or rigid conduit is also an option.. could go under the tractor floor board with it.. etc.. then come out at axle/ brake shaft.. clip to that then underside of fender.. etc.. then use sticky clips.. or a glop of clear rtv to 'stick the line in place to the underside of the fender.. use some maksing tape to hold the line in the rtv till it sets. then remove the tape once cured. If you ever need to rewire.. the rtv peals off the paint without damage.

virtually limitless ways to do it..

Gary,

Thanks for the diagram, maybe I wasn't clear in my origional post. My problem is that when I run the wires, they end up dangling everywhere. I don't see a clean way to run them. Do most people run conduit? or how do you keep them from floping around?

There is a 1/4 hole in the transmission case flange top-right. The wires runthrough here. They were then held with p-clips fron the hyd-lift cover bolts.

I ran 1/4" soft copper pipe as conduit. Behind the seat I used a 1/2" "T" with 3 reducers. This allowed enough room for splices and the 90 degree turns to go to both fenders. (work light on right tail light on left.) I only dry fitted the 1/4 inch pipe into the "T" fitting so I can take it appart as needed.

Befor I took mine all apart for painting, I had my wire for the rear lights run through a small auto., plastic wire covering, then bought some wireing harness clips and attatched them to the tranny cover bolts, then back and across the seat, tie wraped the wiring to the lft. brake rod, over to the fender, up the fender to the light.
You only have one wire to run, so the wire covering can be real small and inconspicuous. Every so often down the line, remove a bolt and attach the harness holder to it, then replace the bolt. TADA!!!
