Exhaust options?

Does anyone make a bolt-on alternative to the 8N exhaust system that loops the muffler back up vertical beside the hood like on other tractors? I have seen a few Ns fitted up this way but not sure if it's just owners buying bits of bent pipe and fiddling with it or not.

My 8N that so far lives only in my dreams (although I'm lookin and talkin to people third party image) will be used for, amongst other things, dragging a boat and trailer into and out of water. I figure if the exhaust wasn't hanging down underneath I'd have that much more clearance before the water gets more than the wheels wet.

Also, Mrs motorv8N and the tyke have said they're looking forward to some "hay rides" behind the N and I figure such an exhaust mod would spare them a faceful of fumes as we puttered along.
Jes curious!

Supplemental -- anyone know offhand if these fine yt folk ship to Canada? Now that our peso is on par with yours it makes sense to buy south of the border again.

Unfortunatly no, they do not ship to Canada, or any other country outside the USA. Why, I do not know, but I checked parts shipping, and it states this on that page.

Sorry.

Dang but you guys are a helpful bunch! Checked that link on this page and sure nuf, there be two different types, both under $40.

Peter, thanks for the info on the hitches. I was indeed planning on getting a front bumper and ball too -- more for manouvering the trailer into its rather tight parking spot beside the garage. As for the air intake, I figure if I'm deep enough to suck water, I got all sorts of problems!

Truthfully, I hope not to submerge even the wheel hubs and certainly not the pto!

Great idea!

Two thoughts - all the bolt-on front "bumpers" I have seen in the yard of my local shop that works exclusively on N's, have a trailer hitch ball mount in the middle of them. If I were going to use a tractor to put boats in and out of the water, I think I'd use a front ball hitch. It gives you better control, and keeps the driven wheels out of the water. The disadvantage, of course, is that you lose the ability to raise and lower the hitch.

My other thought is that you not only have to raise the exhaust, but be sure the air intake is above the water as well. The carb is near the bottom of the engine. Easy to do, but important.

The folks that host this forum also sell these kits, they offer a few versions, both for only about thirty dollars. Good luck with your dream tractor, I"m sure you"ll love it!

Jerry.

I've seen the upright exhaust in a local farm store - I believe it was Tractor Supply, but we also have Farm & Fleet, Big "R" and Farm King so I know they are out there in one of them.

They sell two diff. options of the vert. exaust right on this web site. Go to the left hand, top of this page to tractor parts. Look in 8N parts choose exaust and choose the one you want.

Just a thought! HTH
