Hi,

I ordered replacement bearing and seal (as well as gasket) for my 8N pto shaft which is leaking oil - I am assuming that you remove retaining bolts, and the whole unit will pull out the rear then tap out bearing and seal and reverse process? Anything I should watch out for, tips, etc? I dont have a press or anything just hoping I can carefully tap the bearing in.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

Lee

If you want to replace bearing, you will have to remove the sleave. Removing it is easy, split with a cold chisel, remove from shaft, pull bearing. Replace is either heat sleave or press on shaft. You will need to remove a snap ring to remove bearing from housing, remove another ring to remove seal.

The job is pretty much straight forward (what ever that means) Only problem I had in working on mine was that the PTO shaft didn't want to pull out due to an internal mushroomed splined end of the shaft. I had to use some force to get it out, but other than having to carefully file the mushroomed spline a bit, it wasn't too bad.

Make sure the sleeve the seal rides on is not worn or scored. If so, replace it. Your new seal may be narrower than the original, but that is ok, just make sure when you install it the lip of the seal faces the oil. Good luck.
