Was there a different gear ratio available for the ford 9n,s?I would like to put a lower gear in my 9n,it is just to fast and even in 1st,it just doesn't have any power,(rebuild).Hard to drive it around in the woods, skidding trees without pushing clutch in and out.

Are you sure that you are getting all the way down to 1st gear? I realize this may sound stupid but my 1st gear is so low I almost never use it. I start out in 2nd 90% of the time unless I need to do some heavy pulling or hauling.

For a wad of cash and some elbow grease you can probably drop in a sherman combo or a plain underdrive inplace of your trans input shaft, and get lower gearing ( and lower pto speed ).. but I'm puzzled about your 'rebuild' I have a 2n with a rather tired engine and am not having power problems in 1st gear.. and can take off in 3rd without too much clutch wear..

Sounds like you have two problems. I'm not aware of any lower gear ratio being available for 9N's, but w/ enough time & money, you could probably rig something up. The 'no power' problem might be easier to fix. Start by telling us if it is a 6v or 12v & exactly what was done for the rebuild & what you mean by 'no power'. There are plenty of folks around here that can help.

I done a rebuild about 20 years ago,new sleeves, pistons etc.ten put new rings, bearings in about 6 years ago and probably ready for it again.I probably shouldn't have said"no power" just that it is geared to high.It just won't go slow enough thur the woods, around trees and things without running the clutch.Maybe I"ll try a smaller dia.tire on the back.Tractor gets run alot almost everyday in the summer loading scrap and evertime it snows,we plow with it(seems like everyday in the winter)

Hmm.. my 2n in 1st gear and low throttle will go just a tad faster than walking speed.

Is your carb and throttle adjusted where you can get down to a good 400-500 rpm idle?
