Is this the wire Dunk was talking about and if so if it touches the case will it cause a short if the insulation is worn?

After looking at that agin, with an extended look, that sprang is in the brush holder beside the brush, it ain't on the top of the brush holding it agin the armature.

Take a piece of electric fence wire, and bend an L on the bottom of it, and reach down and hook the sprang, and pull it up and seat it on top of the brush!!

Yes, but that one "looks" like the insulation is good, but move it away from the grounded stuff any ways.
