Found what I need for pto - available new?

I have eventually tracked down the seal and parts I need for the pto shaft on my 8N - this is what was on my pto shaft I took off last week:

Does anyone know if the rubber seal is available new? Also, would the bearing I have for a 1 1/8 bearing still be usable on the shaft I have?

Would I be better off to just purchase a new pto shaft complete with correct seal and bearing for my 8N rather than try to repair the 9N one I have?

Thanks,

Lee

Legend or whatever they call themselves now has them for $6, I think.

Never understood why everyone is in such a hurry to pay $100+ for a whole new 1-3/8" assembly when the seal starts leaking. I stuck a cheap adaptor sleeve on with a rollpin about 20 years ago, and it's still working fine. Plus I can still run a the old stuff if I need to.

For me the problem is that I dont have a press or the correct expertise to do this myself - a new seal apparently is in the region of $20, plus the bearing (which is completely worn out) then labor brings it up to a price where it is worthwhile just getting a whole new unit bringing the size from 1 1/8 up to 1 3/8 which apparently is a more common size now for equipment - so that is my reasoning for getting a new part. I feel ok about this whereas normally I would replace the seal and bearing and be done with it.

If you want to switch to the modern 1 3/8 shaft, go buy the complete replacement. If you want to retain the original 1 1/8, I would look on ebay as there is always someone parting out a 8n, be sure the splines are in go condition, and the threads in the housing are not wallowed out. The parts to repair the 9n type may become scarce or expensive in the future.

I think I am just going to get a new pto shaft from a local supplier - otherwise I am going to be dinking around with this for a while - now I have to return the orc back to YT parts and hopefully they will swap it out for one with the 1 3/8 female end as the one I got was for the 1 1/8 pto shaft - Ill give them a call this morning and see if they are going to go easy on me as far as restocking charges etc.

I believe the part you are looking for is 9N727. Not listed with Tisco so it looks like dealer only or upgrade to the newer style.

I believe this seal is still available from New Holland - but it is pretty pricy. I have one of these shafts on my '39, I am hoping it does not leak when I fill up the reservior.
