I just bought an 8N. Didn't get the serial number but the seller said it was a 50 plus or minus 1 year. He is delivering it later in the week. It has nearly new rear tires and a new starter nd battery. Looks to me like the tin is very good and the paint looks 95%. Everything looked to work. His brother owned it for the past 8 years or so until he passed away last year. I did a lot of reading here for the past 2 days about these tractors. I plan to use it for food plots mostly. I gave $2750 for it and a back blade and he is delivering it free. It looks like it was kept inside since it has almost no rust and is very clean. I hope it is solid. The steering has only a little slack and it starts right up. Did I do OK? This is my first tractor except for my John Deere Z280 garden tractor. Ruby Creek Ted

Ted,

You and I had a very similar experience. I knew something about operating tractors, but nothing about buying. I spent some time researching on this site, and then went out shopping. I ended up spending 3 grand on mine. I now know that was too much for what I ended up with, but I've had nothing but fun and fun challenges, so it's all okay. Don't sweat the small stuff :-) Get'r working your food plots and have fun.

Do as Soundguy suggests - get those manuals. Then do a careful run through of all the recommended maintenance. Change the oil, change the differential oil, clean the air cleaner, etc. Spending some good quality time now with your new 8N will go a long way towards building a strong and long lasting relationship.

Post some photos, and stick around. This is a good group.

Colin, MN

Once you get it, give us the sn and we will tell you the year. Also, a close up pic of the side of the steering box and we can tell you how to adjust it. if you are lucky, it is a new style steering box and you might just be able to adjust that slack out without much fuss.

I reccomend an I&T FO-4 manual and an owners manual.. if you can swing it.. the master parts catalog is good.. and many of us get the oem service manual as well.. just because.. etc... though the fo-4 is fairly decent and has bigger pictures / easier to read larger print text.

This site that is provided to us free sells these manuals.

I ordered the 4 manuals first thing after my first post last night. I forgot to mention that my new baby has 12v system and all electrical, lights and horn work fine. I didn't check if it in a genny or alternator system. I stopped at TSC on my way home and bought a draw bar. Ted

It seems the purchase price of these tractors varies quite a bit all over this country so who knows? Like the man said it's too late for buyers remorse, just have fun with it, cuz, like it or not your one of US now...welcome to 8N mania.

If it does what you want it to do and makes you happy, I would not worry too much about cost. It sounds nice and is in the ballpark. Enjoy!
